Look. I love being honest. So let me honestly tell you that Alexandra Tweten’s debut book “Bye Felipe: Disses, Dick Pics, And Other Delights Of Modern Dating” is exactly what you’re looking for even if you’re not so sure what that is. I’m not just saying this because I sat next to Alexandra as she started writing it, way back when “Bye Felipe” was merely an internet sensation and a twinkle in her eye. Even then, I knew that it would be something bigger than “viral” mostly because it was going to fill a necessary void. It would set out to answer the greatest question of our time, WHAT THE FUCK HAS TECHNOLOGY DONE TO THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN.

The “Bye Felipe” book is an obvious extension of the viral account. However, without being limited by word count and censors, Alexandra is able to take a sort of existential journey into what is happening in our world and how that’s effecting the relationships between men and women. Of course, the book is feminist in nature so it takes into account the experiences of POC and the LGBT community, so that the entire work is inclusive, which is hard to find at times. Because of this, it unfolds in such a wonderful way that it doesn’t come across as preachy. It is simply an extension of stories that any anyone, anywhere can relate to.

I don’t think it’s fair to get into my favorite part, mostly because there’s a whole section dedicated to Dickoupage and it’s evolution though the years. Of course, that’s my favorite part. It’s hard to find people who can look though how Dickoupage started as an angry joke on men and eventually evolved into something bigger–something I am not even sure of mostly. Alexandra is doing some of the hardest work out there, and that’s telling the truth about what it is like to be marginalized while looking for love. The ideas and stories she shares paints an accurate depiction of what it’s like to use technology to find love.

I assume the audience for this is female, but honest to god, if you ended up here and are a man, buy this book. What’s it going to hurt to be immersed in the experiences of women? If anything it will give you the sort of perspective that at best will make you a better man and partner, and at worst, you’ll have countless examples of HOW NOT TO ACT. If you can think of a better way to spend $10.99 on Amazon, come at me.

I am so fortunate to be Alexandra’s friend in real life, but if you’re not as lucky you can purchase an extension of that. With “Bye Felipe: Disses, Dick Pics, And Other Delights Of Modern Dating”  everyone has an opportunity to get the sort of brilliant life advice that only lucky fucks like me can get in a second.
